A new effective natural solution to insect pests in horticultural crops and organic farming. Pyrethrum 5EC contains 5% natural Pyrethrins derived entirely from chrysanthemum flowers (Chrysanthemum cinerariaefolium) grown in Tanzania. Known for 50 years in public health situations, this naturally occurring pesticide has recently become available to professional growers in the form of Pyrethrum 5EC. Pyrethrum is non-systemic and kills insect pests by contact action, the active ingredient causes rapid knock-down and is effective on a wide range of mites and chewing and sucking insects including: aphids, whitefly, caterpillar, moths, & fleabeetle. Pyrethrum is non-persistent in the environment, leaves no residue on crops and is suitable for a range of crop situations, outdoor and protected. 24 hour harvest interval from last treatment ensures production is not disrupted. Pyrethrum 5EC is suitable for organic crop production. Instructions for use Approved label uses
Water volume Use between 275 – 1500 L/ha water ensuring Pyrethrum 5EC is at a concentration of 0.02%. Application timing Pyrethrum 5EC can be sprayed at 7 day intervals and crops harvested 24 hours after last application Outdoor crop application Pyrethrum 5EC can be used to spray outdoor field crops with horizontal boom sprayers providing the following buffer zones are complied with: IPM As a natural insecticide with broad spectrum activity, Pyrethrum 5EC will kill most insect predators used in Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programmes. However, due to its short persistence it can be used early/late in the season as a clean-up, to clear up infestations mid-season followed by re-introduction of predators, to target specific plants where necessary, and to control natural insect predators that have got out of control (e.g. Macrolophus). Insecticide Resistance Natural Pyrethrum has not been notified as an insecticide with a high risk of insect resistance. This is due to its mix of active ingredients (Pyrethrins I & II) which are harder to develop resistance to and the presence of PBO (piperonyl butoxide) in the product which inhibits the insects natural resistance mechanism means that insects are unlikely to develop resistance to Pyrethrum 5EC. Growers should always follow Good Agricultural Practice when spraying crops, particularly with regard to preventing pest resistance. Pyrethrum 5EC is only available to professional growers in the UK and EIRE as a 1 litre, or 5 litre concentrate . A non-professional version (Aquablast bug spray, 0.02% Pyrethrins pre-mixed) is available to buy as a 1L pre-mixed trigger spray through the Tozer Direct Website
