BIOMEX Soil applied growth stimulant Two types of Biomex are available: Biomex SA and Biomex P
Biomex SA contains a liquid blend of 4 species of Trichoderma (naturally occurring soil-borne fungus):
Biomex P contains a powdered blend of 7 active strains of one species, Trichoderma harzianum (naturally occurring soil-borne fungus). When Biomex is applied to the soil as either a liquid spray (Biomex SA) or a powder (Biomex P), the Trichoderma spores germinate and rapidly multiply. As the mycelium spreads through the soil it colonises the roots of crops. This colonisation of the roots stimulates the rhizosphere and produces growth factors; enhancing crop emergence and vigour leading to an increase in yield. The Trichoderma spores contained in Biomex multiply faster than pathogenic fungi and therefore out-compete some plant pathogens, such as Rhizoctonia, Pythium, Sclerotinia and Fusarium. Although Biomex is not fungicidal, this competition with other soil borne organisms can reduce the pathogens ability to damage crops, decreasing the incidence and severity of soil-borne disease. Replicated trials undertaken at Stockbridge Technology centre in Yorkshire showed dramatic improvements in emergence in potato plants treated with Biomex compared to untreated plants. Untreated plants suffered a high percentage of stem canker infection compared to treated plants where the Trichoderma spores played a large part in blocking the high levels of Rhizoctonia present in the soil. This physical blocking meant that treated plants were largely free of Rhizoctonia infection and hence emerged more quickly and vigorously than untreated plants. Benefits of Biomex SA and Biomex P
Biomex SA and Biomex P are suitable for a wide range of crops and plants including; potatoes, field vegetables, salad crops, and many ornamental plants.
Application rates
Trichoderma fungus is present as a suspension of spores concentrated to a level of 3 x 10 7 /ml of Biomex SA. The fungus is present as a powdered concentration of spores in Biomex P Biomex SA and Biomex P are approved for use in organic systems by the Soil Association. Unit sizes available: Biomex SA 1 litre containers Biomes P: 0.5 kg and 1 kg packs |
