BiofenceBioFence

100% vegetable, organic fertiliser

Developed by the ISCI Institute (who also developed our Caliente Mustards), BioFence fertiliser is derived from a specially bred brassica crop, the seeds of which are harvested, and following an exclusive process formed into small pellets. These 100% seed meal pellets and are high in organic matter and contain a spectrum of macro and micro nutrients.

The nitrogen supplied by BioFence has the ability to supply certain crops with their whole nitrogen requirement (150kg/ha) and is released slowly over time. This is due to the need to first be mineralised by soil micro-organisms before it is available to the plant. This natural and biological process ensures crops receive their required nutrition over a more natural timescale and avoids the risk of nutrient over-availability in the soil which also reduces the likelihood of leaching.

Improvements in soil fertility

BioFence is applied at a rate of 2.5t/ha or 250 g/m2 and as a bulky product it therefore adds large quantities of dry matter to the soil. With the high levels of organic matter in BioFence this addition helps improve soil structure, drainage and water holding capacity, similar to the benefits of adding large quantities of green/fresh matter.

The natural compounds present in BioFence are incorporated into the soil during application, these unique compounds are important for encouraging beneficial soil flora and fauna. This increase in soil microbial activity improves soil fertility and health, allowing stronger, more robust plant growth.

Organic use
BioFence is ideal for use in organic farming systems; please refer to your own certifying body with regards to restrictions. Soil Association registered growers will need to request a derogation before use.

BioFence is solely a pre-plant fertiliser and cannot be used post planting or sowing. It must be mechanically incorporated into the soil and irrigated with 1.5 – 2.5cm of water after incorporation to allow the natural compounds to break down. A further 7 – 14 days must be left before planting or sowing the following crop.
